Lighten Up Teams

Become part of the global warming solution. Go on a Low Carbon Diet!Lighten Up, Frankfort!

Doing your part to save energy and combat climate change is enormously satisfying. There are a number of hats you can wear to help our community cut 1,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

You can join a team that is being formed at your workplace, your place of worship, or by a neighborhood or organization that you’re part of.

If you don’t know of such a team, contact the Lighten Up Coordinator, with your name, email address, phone number, and street address, and let her know you’re interested. She will give your name to a team that is forming or send you an FAQ sheet and team sign-up sheet to help you get other people excited about forming a Lighten Up Frankfort team.

Volunteer to lead a team that you’ve joined that needs a leader. Or form a team on your own either with friends, at your workplace or place of worship, in your neighborhood or through any other organization you have joined. Just contact the Lighten Up Coordinator, and she will send you the materials you need get folks interested in participating.

Being a Team Leader is easy. Schedule four meetings over 2-3 months and facilitate those meetings using the easy-to-follow guidelines in the Low Carbon Diet book. You remind your team members of meeting times and what to bring, and you make sure team members turn in their Action Plans at the 4th and last meeting. You’ll also have a Team Liaison to guide you, a Team Leader Handbook (available on our web site), and an optional Team Leader training session.

Motivating others to save energy and cut carbon emissions is an important accomplishment that allows you to multiply your impact on a pressing problem.

People are more likely to participate in a new activity if they are asked by someone they know. You probably know a lot of people -- think of your family, friends, neighbors, online friends, colleagues, and fellow organization members. It would be a great help if you contacted some of the people you know about forming a Lighten Up team!

As a Lighten Up Recruiter, you may contact as few or as many organizations and individuals as you wish. Attend an FCAN meeting to get materials and tips from the Lighten Up Planning Group on how to interest organizations in participating.

FCAN meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month and are posted on the website. Ask to be placed on the FCAN mailing list by sending an email to [email protected].

FCAN needs more volunteers to stay in touch with a group of teams, answer their questions, help train and motivate them to finish the program and turn in their results. This is a very important role that people who’ve already been on a team can easily fill. Low Carbon Diet
